Alternate Fuel and Waste Vegetable Oil Inspiration

The last month or so I have been feeling the pinch at the pump along with everybody else in America who visits there often. Watching the prices slowly rise for gas and reading reports of record breaking profits for Halliburton and other like minded corporations I can only feel extremely pissed off and completely helpless to do anything about it. That is, until I came across this website: Greasecar.com which is completely BS right? There is no way you can run a car off of used vegetable oil that every friggin restaurant in town is PAYING to get rid of. It simply cant be that simple otherwise everybody would be doing it right? I have watched video after video on youtube and read blog after blog of people who are doing this and running there cars on waste vegetable oil ( W.V.O. ) for 200- 500,000 miles on WVO without any problems or change in performance to their vehicle.
There are some downsides from what I have read. First - Diesel engines are the only type of engines that can be converted. Second -You have to buy a kit to retro fit your car or truck for WVO and that can range anywhere from $300.00 to $2000.00 depending on your car and which type of kit you buy and there are more and more choices becoming available. Third - This is the one that will turn off most Americans to the idea of Waste vegetable oil fuel and that is you have to collect the oil yourself and filter all the gunk out by way of a filtering system which can be time consuming and messy but, if once all this is set up and you get a system running, wouldn't FREE FUEL, less of a carbon footprint and recycling a waste product into something useful make it all worth while? If you really wanted to give OPEC, Bush, the oil cartels and the gas pumps the middle finger wouldn't this be a great way to do it?
Mythbusters did a show on Vegetable Oil cars and (you can view it here) came to the conclusion that even though they proved that a car can run on vegetable oil effectively eventually, WVO will become taxed and charged like fuel or any other commodity if it becomes wide spread and begins to compete with fuel. If this is true, what better time than now to show our displeasure with the current fuel situation? What better way to quit talking about saving the planet and getting "green" and actually start doing something now?
What better way to justify eating at McDonald's?
